If you want 2019 to be an amazing year, you must CREATE this for yourself. Many people set New Year's resolutions, only to fall short. Consequently, some people stop setting goals for themselves entirely. But, goals are important. Otherwise, you meander through life with no clear path. It's like being dropped in the middle of an unknown forest with no compass and no idea where you're heading.
Failure to reach your goals is not as much about the goal itself as it is the process of getting into action and the motivation behind the goal. If you have one without the other, you'll likely fail. Additionally, if you're taking action but not patient with how it unfolds, you may quit just before transformation becomes noticeable.
Imagine you have a garden. You prepare the soil, plant the seeds, provide them with water, and allow the soil to bask in the sunshine. After a couple of weeks, you still cannot see any visible signs of life growing outside the soil. In frustration, you curse the seeds and soil and stomp all over them. Little did you know, the seeds had sprouted within the soil and were ready to break through the soil’s surface. But you have just destroyed them. Are you doing this with your goals?
Keep in mind if you are taking positive action, a positive result will ensue, whether you realize it or not. It is important to take note of the small successes. For example, let's say you're trying to lose weight and one of the actions you took was to drink a glass of water when you have a craving. Maybe you have not yet lost weight, but notice if your cravings have been reduced even slightly. Or, perhaps you notice some other benefit of drinking more water. If anything, you know the water is doing your body good. So, focus on that versus the lack of reaching your primary goal. If you focus on the fact that you are not losing weight. That's what you'll get more of. However, if you focus on the benefits of what you are doing to lose weight, you'll get more of those benefits and will feel more positive about the process.
If you truly want 2019 to be an amazing year, here are some simple tips to help you live a more fulfilling, joyful life...
Forgive yourself and others. We all make mistakes. Holding a grudge hurts you more that the person you hold the grudge against, and doubly damaging when you're holding that grudge against yourself. Choose to forgive and free yourself from any anger or resentment.
Switch from a negative state of mind to a positive one. When you think a negative thought (whether toward someone else or yourself), replace it with 3-5 positive thoughts.
Celebrate your successes. Focusing on your failures or what you did not accomplish is self-defeating. Instead, focus on what you have to be grateful for EVERY DAY.
Maintain a gratitude journal. Every night before you got to bed, write down all they things you are grateful for. In the morning when you wake up, read what you wrote the night before to start your day in a place of gratitude.
Here's wishing you an amazing, joyful, fulfilling 2019!!!
